How to Optimize Google My Business in 7 Steps

Step by step to optimize Google My Business (Google Business Profile) and position your company on Google Maps, in the Local Pack, and in local searches in your city.

O que você vai conseguir: Optimized Google Business Profile ready to appear on Google Maps.

Ferramentas necessárias

  • Google Business Profile — To manage and optimize the company's profile on Google Maps.
  • Google Maps — To check how the profile appears in local searches.

Passo a passo

  1. 1
    Claim and verify the profile.

Go to business.google.com and search for your business name. If a profile has already been created automatically by Google, click on "Claim this business." If it doesn't exist, click on "Add your business." Verification is done by postcard (5–7 days), phone, or email — choose the fastest available option.

  2. 2
Fill in all the company information.

Complete 100% of the profile: official company name, main category (choose the most specific one possible), secondary categories, full address, phone number, website, regular business hours, and special hours for holidays. Profiles that are 100% complete appear more frequently in local searches.

  3. 3
    Add professional photos

Upload at least 10 high-quality photos: exterior facade (day and night), interior of the establishment, team in action, products or services in operation. Profiles with photos receive 42% more route requests and 35% more clicks to the website than profiles without photos. Add new photos monthly.

  4. 4
    Write a strategic description.

Create a description of up to 750 characters that naturally includes your main local keywords. Mention the city, segment, differentiators, and time in the market. Do not include URLs, emails, or promotional content — Google rejects that.

  5. 5
    Respond to all reviews.

Set up alerts for new reviews and respond within 48 hours. For positive reviews: thank the customer by name and reinforce the mentioned differentiator. For negative reviews: acknowledge the issue, apologize publicly, and offer to resolve it via email or phone. Never engage in public disputes.

  6. 6
    Publish Google Posts weekly

Click on "Posts" in the Business Profile panel and publish updates, industry tips, or offers with images, text, and a CTA. Posts keep the profile active, signal relevance to Google, and appear directly in search results when someone looks for your business.

  7. 7
    Monitor insights and adjust

Access "Performance" on the dashboard and check monthly: how many people viewed your profile, how many requested directions, called, or clicked on the website. Compare months to identify trends. If profile visits are low, add more photos and posts. If calls are low, review the main category.
