How to Create a Welcome Email Sequence
Learn how to create a welcome email sequence: define the objective, map the journey, write each email, and set up automation in the email marketing tool.
O que você vai conseguir: Automated and active sequence of 5 welcome emails for new subscribers
Ferramentas necessárias
- Brevo (formerly Sendinblue) — To create and automate the email sequence
- Mailchimp — Free alternative to create welcome automations
- ActiveCampaign — For advanced automations with behavior-based segmentation
Passo a passo
-
1
Define the objective and the structure of the sequence.
A welcome sequence consists of 3 to 7 emails sent in the first 7–14 days after registration. Define the objective: introduce the brand? Educate? Offer? The ideal structure is: Email 1 (welcome and delivery of the gift), Emails 2 and 3 (valuable content), Email 4 (social proof), Email 5 (offer or CTA).
-
2
Map the journey of the new subscriber.
Think about someone who has just signed up: what do they know about you? What do they expect to receive? What objections do they have? What is the ideal next action? The sequence should guide them from initial curiosity to the first business action (scheduling a conversation, making a purchase, requesting a quote).
-
3
Write Email 1 — Welcome (immediate sending)
Subject: "Welcome — here’s what you asked for". Content: greeting by name, delivery of the promised gift (if any), brief introduction of who you are and what the subscriber can expect. This email has the highest open rate of the entire sequence (60–80%). Do not try to sell anything here.
-
4
Write Emails 2 and 3 — Value content (days 2 and 4)
Share practical and high-value content: an actionable tip, a checklist, a summarized case study, a free resource. The goal is to build trust and demonstrate authority before asking for anything. These emails "warm up" the contact for the offer that comes later.
-
5
Write Email 4 — Social proof (day 7)
Share a real success story or customer testimonial with specific data: "We helped [company] increase sales by 47% in 3 months with Google Ads." Concrete data is much more convincing than generic statements. Finish with a link for more cases on the website.
-
6
Write Email 5 — Offer or CTA (day 10)
Present the next natural step for the subscriber: schedule a free consultation, learn about a specific service, start a trial period. Be specific about the benefit and create a real sense of urgency (limited spots, deadline, exclusive bonus for subscribers).
-
7
Set up the automation and test it before activating.
On your platform (Brevo, Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign), create the automation flow: trigger = "subscription to list X", actions = send Email 1 immediately > wait 2 days > Email 2 > wait 2 days > Email 3 > wait 3 days > Email 4 > wait 3 days > Email 5. Before activating, test by sending it to your own email.
